Book Review: The Elite by Kiera Cass

Hello everyone and welcome back to my Book Blog. So today I will be continuing my Selection Series Book Review with the second book from the series: The Elite. Let’s get started shall we!

The Selection began with thirty-five girls.

Synopsis: Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon’s heart is fiercer than ever – and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen? America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want – and America’s chance to choose is about to slip away.

I give this book 5 stars!! I love feeling the emotions that America goes through. It’s obvious that I want her to choose Maxon, but at the same time  I feel bad that she can’t exactly choose him just yet, because she’s confused about her feelings that she may still have for Aspen.

Kiera Cass did a wonderful job with this book, she definitely put the second book on a whole other level than the first book. Usually, most books that have sequels we don’t tend to like the second book as much as we fell in love with the first one. But I’m proud to say that she really out did herself with this story and made me fall even more in love with this story and characters.

I’m the type of person that doesn’t want to spoil anything so that’s why I’m trying really hard not to give too much away that happens in this books and series, because honestly I could just go on and on about it, but then I might ruin it for some of you so I don’t want that to happen. If you want to know what happens next I suggest you go read the series!! ❤

I will leave you though with this little snippet from the first chapter of the book. Hope you enjoy!!!

The Angeles air was quiet, and for a while I lay still, listening to the sound of Maxon’s breathing. It was getting harder and harder to catch him in a truly calm and happy moment, and I soaked up the time, grateful that he seemed to be at his best when he and I were alone.

Ever since the Selection had been narrowed down to six girls, he’d been more anxious than he ever was when the thirty-five of us arrived in the first place. I guessed he thought he’d have more time to make his choices. And though it made me feel guilty to admit it, I knew I was the reason why he wished he did.

Prince Maxon, heir to Illea throne, liked me. He’d told me a week ago that if I could simply say that I cared for him the way he did for me, without anything holding me back, this whole competition would be over. And sometimes I played with the idea , wondering how it would feel to be Maxon’s alone.

But the thing was, Maxon wasn’t really mine to begin with. There were five other girls here – girls he took on dates and whispered things to – and I didn’t know what to make of that. And then there was the fact that if I accepted Maxon, it meant I had to accept a crown, a thought I tended to ignore if only because I wasn’t sure what it would mean for me.

And, of course, there was Aspen.

He wasn’t technically my boyfriend anymore – he’d broken up with me before my name was even drawn for the Selection – but when he showed up at the palace as one of the guards, all the feelings I’d been trying to let go of flooded my heart. Aspen was my first love; when I looked at him . . . I was his.

Maxon didn’t know that Aspen was in the palace, but he did know that there was someone at home that I was trying to get over, and he was graciously giving me time to move on while attempting to find someone else he’d be happy with in the event I couldn’t ever love him.

As he moved his head, inhaling just above my hairline, I considered it. What would it be like to simply love Maxon?

From this opening passage we see the struggle that America is having, does she choose to try and start liking Maxon and try to have a life with him or does she go back to her first love Aspen and make it work again? Like I said earlier if you want to know what America’s decision is then you just need to go and get the series and start reading!!
