Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!! I know that it’s been a while since I’ve done a book review and to be honest I’m quite behind, I think there are at least six or more book reviews I had that was supposed to be before this one, but I never got around to writing them and uploading them, but I knew that I couldn’t pass up this book review! Especially, since this is a book that I just recently finished and the story plot is still fresh in my mind to give a good book review about this one so let’s begin shall we! 🙂
Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes is the first book in the Queen Of Hearts Saga. I have actually never heard of the book this saga or the Author Colleen Oakes. I discovered the book and her by complete accident. I was in the Barnes & Noble Bookstore looking for some new books to buy with my money that I received on Christmas. I was in the Young Adult section, since that genre is probably my most favorite genre of books to read! Anyway as I was looking up and down the shelves and aisle, I probably went up and down about 20 times because I just couldn’t find a book that caught my attention or interest. I was getting ready to give up and just come back another time when finally I saw this beauty of a book.
What caught my attention was both the title and the book cover. They just drew me in and then when I read the synopsis then I knew I just had to have and viola I bought the book! I started to read the book immediately when I got home I finished it within about a weeks time! I just couldn’t put it down, it was that good and I can’t wait to start the second book, Blood of Wonderland!
Synopsis: Only Queens with hearts can bleed. This is not the story of the Wonderland that we know. Alice has not fallen down a rabbit hole. There is no all-knowing cat with a taunting smile. This is a Wonderland where beneath each smile lies a secret, each tart comes with a demand, and only prisoners can tell the truth.
Dinah is the princess who will one day reign over Wonderland. She has not yet seen the dark depths of her kingdom; she longs only for her father’s approval and a future with the boy that she loves. But when a betrayal breaks her heart and threatens her throne, she is launched in Wonderland’s dangerous political game. Dinah must stay one step ahead of her cunning enemies or she’ll lose not just the crown but her head.
Evil is brewing in Wonderland and maybe, most frighteningly, in Dinah herself.
This is not a story of happily ever after.
This is the story of the Queen of Hearts.
I’m rating this book a solid 5 stars!! It was that good! I love how this is a totally different Wonderland than the one I grew up with. Now the only Wonderland I know is the movies by Disney, I never got to read the original book by Lewis Carrol, but now I need and want to. The beginning of this book is kind of slow and takes a while to build up, but once it does you’ll be hooked just like I was. I love how there are new characters in this book but they still have a twist of the original characters that we know and love. I have to say I’m not a fan of the King of Hearts, I don’t want to spoil anything to those of you who may not have read this book, but when you do read it you’ll know why I despise the King of Hearts and I have no doubt that you will too.
Next Blog Post: I’ll have some more book reviews coming soon. I have a New Year Post also coming soon, in that post I’ll be talking about my plans that I have concerning my blog for the new year. I can’t wait to share with you guys!! Until next time! 🙂
