Book Review: Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Hello everyone and welcome back to my book blog!! I know that I said in my last blog post that in my next post I would continue to do The Selection Series book review and it was supposed to be about The Elite. But I’m still working on that post so while I’m still working on it, I decided to go ahead and post a different Book Review of a book that I just finished reading and just had to share it with all of you while it’s still fresh inside my head.

Synopsis:

Passage, n.

i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.

ii. A journey by water; a voyage.

iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.

In one devastating night, violin  prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of  only one thing; she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods – a powerful family in colonies – and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’s passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them – whether she wants to or not.

Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever.

I’m giving Passenger a high 5 out of 5 stars!!! This book was amazing!! Kept me on my toes. I never knew what was going to happen next and I love that about authors who write books like this. You think that the story and characters will be going one way and then out of nowhere you’re doing a complete 180 and going in a totally different direction.

What I love about this book is that there’s an equal balance of adventure, romance, danger, and obviously twists that you didn’t see coming. Alexandra Bracken really knows how to keep her reader’s attention. This was my very first book that I’ve read from her and I’m proud to say that she just earned herself a new reader. I’m currently reading Wayfarer which is the last book of this beautiful journey of Passenger. I do suggest that if you want to read these two books, do read them one after the other because Wayfarer picks up right where Passenger ends because there’s a surprise cliffhanger that you don’t see coming.

Etta Spencer and Nicholas Carter, oh how I love these two, they’re perfect for each other. I love how both of them want to be together, but at the same time don’t really say anything about their feelings at first because they both know that in reality they can’t really be together; Etta is from the future and Nicholas is from the past. Plus, Nicholas is from a time where men of color wouldn’t be able to be in a relationship with Etta, he would be her servant.

I love how Etta doesn’t care about what race he is, she wants to be with him, she wishes that after they find the astrolabe that she could take Nicholas back into the future with her so that they could be together and that he could have a better life, but she doesn’t want to make him feel like he doesn’t have a choice and at the same time Nicholas wishes that after their mission is done that Etta and him could just run away together and for her to stay in the past with him, but he doesn’t want to make her feel like she doesn’t have a choice.

This is a beautiful story, I can honestly say that this is a story that I want to keep on reading, I don’t want the adventure to end. I highly recommend this book if you’re big on time traveling, romance and adventure!

Thank you for reading my Book Review on Passenger. I should have two new blog posts coming up very soon. One will be the continuation of The Selection Series Book Review, which will be about the second book in the series: The Elite. And the second Book Review will be on Wayfarer which will be continuing where Passenger left off. Until next time my lovelies!! ❤

The posts should be up in the next week or so. 🙂
